I am somewhat disabled physically and have been help immensely by Village members driving me to doctors’ appointment.

Particularly important to us has been the film series and the ability to socialize in dinners at restaurants.

We love living on College Hill and know that the Village on College Hill will allow us to stay in our home as long as possible.

Why do I love the The Village on College Hill? It links the past, present, and future.

As a member I’ve been enriched by the storied histories shared by my fellow members in the Tuesday night Village Voices series, enjoyed their camaraderie during wonderful restaurant dinners and excursions.

I feel secure that if I ever need something in the future help is just a phone call away.

From the free movies nights to the Tai Chi lessons, the equinox parties and the wine tastings, the VOCH has allowed me to realize that growing old is just a state of mind.

We love the College Hill neighborhood – its unique homes, its walkability, and its people – and we want to support all efforts to improve the quality of life for older citizens.

We love the summer film series, the presentations by artists and about the Village Voice and the WDIY public radio station, and getting to know some people who have moved here more recently.

The Solstice gatherings and Valentine’s events are great fun.  Also, it’s helpful to receive the notifications from the weekly bulletin.

Ever since the Village-sponsored Tai Chi and Qigong exercise classes began 5 years ago, I’ve appreciated and enjoyed them. But the virtual version via Zoom this past year during a pandemic? Priceless!

Often called “meditation in motion,” this traditional Chinese approach aims to bolster health by reducing stress and improving balance and energy, while calming your breath to achieve physical and mental relaxation. Have we ever needed it more?

It’s a great way to start off the week each Monday morning: one click of a Zoom link on your computer or iPad connects you to the homes of participating Villagers, along with those of the three Village members who lead the class. In turn, they mimic crane or monkey moves, lead us in “easy-flow” Tai Chi, or demonstrate the “18 Steps” to relaxing music. And each of us has the best seat in the house for learning these moves.

When warmer weather returns, so will our Wednesday outdoor sessions at the Nevin Park tennis courts, where space permits us to fully practice Tai Chi’s familiar “24 Step Chen Style Short Form.” Meanwhile, we’ll keep “pushing the clouds away,” both physically and mentally.
