About this event

Zoom Talk by David Brandes, Professor of Civil & Environmental engineering, and the Chair of the new Integrative Engineering program
Rachel Carson included observations from nearby Hawk Mountain Sanctuary in making her case for the devastating impacts of DDT on the avian food chain. She asks pointedly whether we really want a world without insects if it is also a world "ungraced by the curving wing of a bird in flight." The talk will focus on Rachel Carson's connection to Hawk Mountain, and how raptor migration data and citizen science continue to inform us about the health of our environment.
